Middy's Virtual Ladies' Day

Middy's Virtual Ladies' Day

Not even COVID-19 could stop these ladies from supporting a good cause...

With traditional Middy's Ladies' Days cancelled due to COVID-19 this year, Middy's hosted a virtual Ladies' Day on Friday October 30th, and it was a resounding success.

The event was held via Zoom, where 80 lovely ladies, wearing splashes of pink, united to support and raise money for BCNA.

Boutique Wine Tasting from Mr Velvet Ears and Award Winning Cheese Selection packs from Coal River Farm were delivered straight to the guests' doors for their enjoyment on the day. Mr Velvet Ears wine sommelier, Ashley Hayden and Coal River Farm Cheese expert, Nick Zammit took the guests through the tastings. Guests were also gifted Middy's Showbags, full of goodies, on the day.

Hosted at Middy's Smart Centre by Jenny Hunter, Jo Bydder (MC) and Helen Papanotas

The highlight of the event was BCNA guest speaker, mum of three, Kathryn Elliott, who shared her personal and touching story of surviving breast cancer. Just shy of her 47th birthday, Kathryn was diagnosed with locally advanced triple positive breast cancer. As a fit, healthy woman with no family history of breast cancer this was a complete shock that rocked her and her family to the core.

Kathryn is still in treatment 14 months later even though the cancer is now in remission, but with only two more antibody infusions to go a clear road ahead is in sight.

Kathryn said she "wouldn’t wish a breast cancer diagnosis on anyone, but it’s definitely changed my life for the better because I don’t take living for granted anymore. Each day feels more precious, the ordinary moments more magical, and life is more purposeful. I feel more open hearted and connected to the people in my life than I ever have".

BCNA provided incredible support, the resources it provided empowered my decisions and listening to the podcast series that has medical professionals and other women sharing their experiences was comforting too. We found our new normal and even joked about 'Chemo Thursdays' as a regular in our schedules - Kathryn Elliot

A silent auction featured on the day with all proceeds raised donated to BCNA. Auction items, many kindly donated by our suppliers (Clipsal, Matchmaster, Mercator, Nexans NHP, Omega, Trader, Ventair & Zumtobel), included gift vouchers, restaurant vouchers, KitchenAid appliances, technology items, home fittings (fans, lighting, etc.), Dyson appliances, "experience" vouchers, pamper packs, wine and so much more.

Donations combined with funds raised via the silent auction totalled $9,739.00 with Middy's then matching this amount to raise a grand total of $19,479.00.
