NECA Education & Careers Open Day

We speak to Kelly Reaburn from NECA to find out what the NECA Education & Careers Open Day means for a new generation of aspiring apprentices...

The Open Day at the NECA Carlton Learning Centre gives aspiring electricians the opportunity to walk a day in the life of an apprentice and get elbow deep in a true life situation in which they may one day find themselves. Plus they can have a chat with an apprentice, Industry Careers Consultant and an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network provider to get detailed information on what’s really involved in an electrical apprenticeship.

How beneficial has Middy’s support and sponsorship of NECA Education & Careers been over the last 7 years?
Middy’s have been an amazing support for NECA Education & Careers, and more importantly for our students and apprentices. The support has allowed us to upgrade our equipment and facilities to ensure they are state-of-the-art and meet industry demands. In particular the recently purpose built LEA and LEI room, which has been designed to give future electricians and inspectors a near as possible realistic hands on experience, and to prepare them for what they would meet in the field, as well as preparing them for what they will face as part of their licensing assessment.

Key highlights and successes of the NECA Open Day 2016?
2016 was our most successful Open Day so far. We talked to over 220 aspiring electricians throughout the day and there was a great vibe with Middy’s joining us for a day of fun and information. The biggest success was hearing from aspiring apprentices on how much they enjoyed the day, how informative it was and they could see #howfartheycouldgo!

How valuable have you found the Middy’s sponsored Training Room in terms of training, development and resources for NECA Education & Careers?
We can’t thank Middy’s enough. We had a vision to create a facility that prepared students for their licensing exam and without Middy’s support this would not have been achieved. The new training room has already assisted over 800 students in the past 12 months.
